Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard has announced plans to release her first-ever solo album. Arriving on Sept. 20 via ATO Records, the record is titled Jaime, after her sister who passed away from cancer when Howard was a teen.

"The title is in memoriam," Howard said in a statement announcing the record. "And she definitely did shape me as a human being. But the record is not about her. It's about me. I'm pretty candid about myself and who I am and what I believe. Which is why I needed to do it on my own."

Howard also released a groovy new single, "History Repeats," from the album, which you can listen to below.

Of her decision to step outside of the GRAMMY-winning blues-rock crew, Howard said, "I turned 30 and I was like, 'What do I want the rest of my life to look like?' Do I want to play the same songs until I'm 50 and then retire, or do I do something that's scarier for me? Do I want people to understand me and know me, do I want to tell them my story? I'm very private, but my favorite work is when people are being honest and really doing themselves."

Beginning in August, Howard will also hit the road in support of the album, with intimate performances in Asheville, NC, Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles. Later, she'll headline at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Aug. 19 and New York City’s Beacon Theatre on Sept. 24. Check out the full list of dates here.
