Biography

"I always loved the way music made me feel. I did sports at school, but when I got home, it was just music."

  • Born Andre Romelle Young on Feb. 18, 1965, in Compton, California
     
  • A member of the landmark rap group N.W.A., Dr. Dre broke out with his 1992 solo debut, The Chronic, which hit No. 3 on the Billboard 200. The album featured "Let Me Ride," his first song to crack the Top 40 on Billboard's Hot 100.
     
  • Dr. Dre earned his first career GRAMMY for 1993 for Best Rap Solo Performance for "Let Me Ride."
     
  • At the 53rd GRAMMY Awards, Dr. Dre made his GRAMMY stage debut, performing a medley of "Love The Way You Lie" and "I Need A Doctor" with Eminem, Skylar Grey, Adam Levine, and Rihanna.
     
  • Dr. Dre donated all artist royalties received from his 2015 album, Compton, to help fund a new performing arts and entertainment facility for children in his hometown.
