Biography
"Jazz is a hard music, and you have to really work hard and also have fun performing; that's the most important thing."
- Born Josiah Alexander Sila on June 25, 2003, in Bali, Indonesia
- A child piano prodigy, Alexander's first two albums, 2015's My Favorite Things and 2016's Countdown, reached No. 1 on Billboard's Jazz Albums chart, making him a chart-topping jazz pianist at just 13 years old.
- Alexander earned his first career GRAMMY nominations for 2015 for Best Improvised Jazz Solo ("Giant Steps") and Best Jazz Instrumental Album (My Favorite Things). He made his GRAMMY stage debut at the 58th GRAMMY Awards with an improvised solo that accompanied Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow's telecast speech.
- Did you know? Jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis discovered Alexander through a YouTube video, and invited him to perform at the 2014 Jazz at Lincoln Center's gala, making him an "overnight sensation" in the words of The New York Times.
