Biography
"I've always kind of leaned toward the film and movie aspect of how music is made — everything is visual to me."
- Born Marsha Ambrosius Aug. 8, 1977, in Liverpool, England
- As a member of the R&B duo Floetry, Ambrosius scored her first career Top 40 hit with "Say Yes" (No. 24) in 2003. Her debut solo album, Late Nights & Early Mornings, peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
- Ambrosius received her first three career GRAMMY nominations as a member of Floetry at the 45th GRAMMY Awards, including for Best R&B Song for "Floetic." Her first nominations for her solo work came at the 54th GRAMMY Awards for Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance for "Far Away."
- When Late Nights & Early Mornings debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 between Adele's 21 and Mumford & Sons' I Speak Because I Can, it marked the first time in more than 20 years that the top spots on the U.S. albums chart were held by three U.K. acts.
- In 2011 Ambrosius performed at Word Revolution: A Celebration Of The Evolution Of Hip-Hop, an event produced by The Recording Academy that explored hip-hop as an art form and celebrated the invaluable contributions of the genre and its influence on the American cultural landscape.
