Streaming platform Bandcamp is already a major destination for artists to upload their music for all to hear. Now, Bandcamp has announced plans to launch an in-house vinyl pressing service for bands who use their platform.
Not only that, but bands and artists can even crowdfund for vinyl releases, according to Pitchfork. And, should they cover the minimum cost of creating the records, Bandcamp will press the vinyl, print the packaging, then ship it to customers.
"The new service eliminates risk, since fans' orders finance the pressing, rather than the artist or label," Bandcamp says on their website. "It eliminates hassle, since we press the records, print the packaging, and ship to fans (and fulfill digital too). It offers complete control, with the design and pricing up to the artist, and Bandcamp taking no ownership of the record. And it produces a quality result: our manufacturing partner has over 60 years experience pressing vinyl, so the records look, and sound, great."
So far, four artists have utilized the service: Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, who released Astral Recall, Juliette Jade, who released Constellation, Mesarthim, who released Ghost Condensate and Jim Guthrie, who released Below (Original Soundtrack).
Additionally, a few bands, artists and labels have taken to social media to express their thoughts on Bandcamp’s latest development in vinyl.
The service is set to launch later this year. Get more details on Bandcamp's website.
