It's been almost a decade since Bright Eyes, the folk-influenced indie-rock band well known for their gloomy tracks, released new music, let alone a new body of work. Now, after releasing several singles earlier this year, the Omaha, Neb. band has announced a new album, Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was, and other details surrounding it.

The band's ninth studio album with new label Dead Oceans will be released Aug. 21 and will include their latest single, "Mariana Trench" featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea and Queens Of The Stone Age drummer Jon Theodore. The 14-track follow-up to 2011's The People's Key will also feature earlier released tracks "One and Done," "Persona Non Grata" and "Forced Convalescence."

The band, which celebrated 20 years of their third studio album Fevers And Mirrors on May 29 and was founded by vocalist Conor Oberst at just 15 years old, ended all talk of disbandment when they teased their comeback and revealed tour dates (now postponed) earlier this year. In a recent interview, Oberst, who has worked on side projects including Better Oblivion Community Center with Phoebe Bridgers during the band's hiatus, said the band never planned on breaking up.

"I think we were even in an interview where we committed to 'We're not breaking up,'" he said. "It was really important to me like with the tour and the, you know, I didn't want to play shows again as a band until we had new music."
