Cornell's family has released a new PSA video vowing to continue raising awareness for the human rights causes their father was dedicated to set to the backdrop of his current Best Rock Performance GRAMMY-nominated song, "The Promise."
"The Promise" is the title track from a 2017 film of the same name that covers Armenian genocide. All proceeds from the film have been donated to human rights causes, and Cornell donated all proceeds from his song to the International Rescue Committee, which responds to human rights crisis and helps impacted survivors get back on their feet.
The video features Cornell's children, Toni, Lily and Christopher, who are leading the charge in keeping their father's memory alive.
"From basic human rights to women's rights, my dad believed that if we each vow to keep one promise, we could make the world a better place," Toni says in the video.
In addition, myriad celebrities lent their star power to the cause, including Elton John, Barbra Streisand, Snoop Dogg, Jennifer Lopez, Ciara, Tom Morello, and Pharrell Williams, among others. The clip also features clips of Cornell tracking "The Promise."
Fans are encouraged to join the cause in posting their own Promise videos on social media using the hashtag #keepthepromise.
This human rights campaign follows the announcement that Cornell's wife, Vicky Cornell, would create endowed fund to support the Chris Cornell Scholarship at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law to support students committed to justice, human rights and advocacy.
"I vow to keep the promise to fight for the world's most vulnerable children," Chris Cornell says in the clip. "The idea of supporting whatever you're passionate about, and to me, that's what The Promise campaign is."
