Fromer Talking Heads frontman David Byrne's creative output has never been limited to the confines of popular music. The GRAMMY-winning artist has a long history of mixing mediums, pushing boundaries and overlapping art, entertainment, information, and commentary.

Perhaps his most sweeping step outside the rock and roll box was his 2012 book, How Music Works, which examined how culture, technology, money, music venues, and more impact music and vice versa.

With an updated edition of How Music Works on the way this summer, Byrne has announced a new music variety show at The Town Hall in New York City on June 1. The one-night-only event will, per Consequence of Sound, "include all sorts of performance: music, of course, but also magic, theater, dance, science, and humor."

The book's updated edition will feature a new chapter tackling developments in data-driven music discovery while the variety show will present a live demonstration of the concept of human curation.
