There's no scarier injury for a singer to sustain than one to his vocal chords. Unfortunately, that's exactly the challenge I Prevail vocalist Brian Burkheiser faced in 2016, just as the band's debut, Lifelines, began to gain steam. Today, the Detroit five-piece make their triumphant return, dropping their sophomore album, Trauma, releasing a video for its song "Paranoid" and announcing a headlining tour kicking off next month.

The road to the aptly titled LP wasn't easy. According to a statement by the band, Berkheiser's injury caused him to deal with "the aftershocks of stress and anxiety."
"Conflicted with thoughts of potentially leaving the band, he made a decision," the statement continues. "He got together with his band brothers in 2018 and they decided to craft the record they wanted to hear without outside input. Joined by producer Tyler Smith [Falling In Reverse], they emerged from 10 months in the studio with Trauma."
The album's first two singles, "Bow Down and "Breaking Down," hit YouTube last month, each eclipsing the two million mark in views.
