It’s been 50 years since the Doors released their third album, Waiting For The Sun, and to celebrate, the band has announced the release of a deluxe edition of the classic album complete with previously unreleased tracks.
The reissue will be a two-CD, one 180-gram vinyl LP set that will feature 14 unreleased recordings. More than half of the songs are "rough mixes" from original recording sessions, according to Rolling Stone, that the album's GRAMMY-winning engineer/mixer, Bruce Botnick, recently discovered in his archives.
"I prefer some of these rough mixes to the finals, as they represent all of the elements and additional background vocals, different sensibilities on balances, and some intangible roughness, all of which are quite attractive and refreshing," said Botnick.
This new 50th anniversary edition of the album will also contain the original stereo mixes remastered from the original master tapes by Botnick, who earned a GRAMMY for Best Spoken Word Recording at the 15th GRAMMY Awards for his work as a producer on Lenny. The Doors were honored with the Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.
The new collection is set to be released on Sept.14, but is available now for preorder via the band's website.
