Kendrick Lamar and Chance The Rapper aren't the only rappers taking care of their hometowns.

Dr. Dre has been reppin' Compton, Calif., since '92, when he and Snoop Dogg dropped "Nuthin' But A 'G' Thang." Twenty-five years later, Dre is still giving back more than just shout-outs to the city that raised him.

On June 15 the GRAMMY-winning rapper/producer announced he will commit $10 million toward a performing arts center as part of the new Compton High School, and will take charge of fundraising to cover the rest of the project's financing. The new center is expected to break ground by 2020, will include a 1,200-seat theater and will be equipped to teach digital media production.

This project has been in the making since Dre announced all the proceeds from his 2015 album, Compton, would be donated to a special performing arts project for its namesake city. Dre stated he wanted to provide future generations of pioneering musicians like himself the opportunities they need to get started.

"My goal is to provide kids with the kind of tools and learning they deserve," Dr. Dre said. "The performing arts center will be a place for young people to be creative in a way that will help further their education and positively define their future."
