Eme Alfonso embodies many of the characteristics that make global music so pivotal. By fusing musical elements from her Afro-Cuban roots with a unique blend of soul and jazz, the Cuban singer/songwriter creates an experience that pays a clear homage to her culture while also being diverse enough to attract a wide-ranging audience.

In the latest episode of [Global Spin](https://grammy.com/series-or-collection/global-spin-grammys) — a brand-new performance series spotlighting global music and international artists — Alfonso shines a bright light on the sounds of Cuba and how far they can be stretched.

Watch the Cuban vocalist perform "Veo" from her 2018 album Voy below.

Here, Alfonso is accompanied by an all-Cuban band—including her parents, Carlos Alfonso and Ele Valdés, on background vocals. The singer/songwriter credits her parents for her fusion of Afro-Cuban music with rock and jazz, citing their connection with the Latin GRAMMY-winning Afro-Cuban jazz band Sintesis.
