Newark, N.J.-based soul singer/songwriter and 2015 GRAMMY Amplifier winner ChinahBlac released the music video for her single "Keep Your Word" on Sept. 17. As an Amplifier winner, ChinahBlac earned the opportunity to film a music video with a noted producer/director. In this exclusive behind-the-scenes making of video, ChinahBlac details how her hometown inspires her songwriting and the significance of the notebook featured in the video for "Keep Your Word," among other topics.
"The city of Newark is a pretty tough place," said ChinahBlac. "There's a lot of stories in Newark. There's triumphs like Whitney Houston and [Queen] Latifah, so it's high and low end. I try to write from that place."
Executive produced by The Recording Academy, the music video for "Keep Your Word" was directed by Rick Mordecon with producer JR Harrington and assistant director Chad Reininger. Mordecon has directed projects for artists such as Jay Z, LL Cool J and Usher, among others. The video for "Keep Your Word" was filmed in New York, including scenes at Manhattan live music venue Sounds Of Brazil. In addition to the video, "Keep Your Word" will be released as a single on Oct. 2.
ChinahBlac is one of three winners of the third annual GRAMMY Amplifier program. The winners were chosen by Amplifier ambassador and GRAMMY winner Mark Ronson and this year's program curators — GRAMMY winners the Band Perry and Ziggy Marley and singer/songwriter Allen Stone.
