J Balvin and Maria Becerra brought heat to the stage at the 2022 GRAMMYs. The Colombian reggaetonero arrived clad in a red trench coat, while the Argentinian singer stunned in black leather.
“La fama esta me tiene jodido. Pero no me olvido de lo que sucedió,” he flirted with a confessional quip before jumping into the chorus of “Qué Más Pues?” “Regálame otra noche, quiero verte. Que hay que aclarar par de cosas pendiente.” (Meaning: “This fame has messed me up. But I don’t forget what happened. Give me another night, I want to see you. There are a couple of things to clear up pending.”) The sultry club single, which appears in his sixth album Jose released last year, is more than half a billion streams deep just on Spotify alone.
Balvin then amped up the vibe with the EDM-driven “In Da Ghetto,” where viewers saw him amid a light-donning team moving in quirky choreography. To date, the Colombian powerhouse has won a total of five Latin GRAMMYs and has received a total of three GRAMMY nominations, including this year for his sixth album Jose in the Best Música Urbana Album category. He is widely credited for giving reggaeton another boost, thus helping the Puerto Rico-originated genre spread further. He gave it a more seductive spin from its previously more bombastic edge.
In 2020, Becerra, the Buenos Aires native became the first Latin artist to join the 300 Entertainment roster, home to Young Thug, Fetty Wap and Megan Thee Stallion. Last year, she released her debut album Animal to critical acclaim, where she revealed her musical dexterity while dipping into styles like R&B, reggaeton, trap, and pop.
