Ahead of what was scheduled to be the release date for her highly anticipated sixth studio album Chromatica, GRAMMY-winning pop songstress Lady Gaga has announced she will postpone the album’s release, originally set for April 10, due to COVID-19.
Gaga is the latest artist in the industry to be affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Much of the music industry has been hit hard and has been forced to adapt to a new normal of quarantining and social distancing. The COVID-19 outbreak has caused tours and festivals to be canceled or postponed, vinyl and CD distribution to be halted and several other artists, including Willie Nelson and Hinds, to push back album release dates.
Lady Gaga took to Instagram on Tuesday (Mar. 24), to address the decision behind pushing Chromatica’s release as well as to encourage fans to stay safe at home.
Gaga wrote:
“… after a lot of deliberation, I’ve made the incredibly tough decision to postpone the release of Chromatica… This is such a scary and hectic time for all of us, and while I believe art is one of the strongest things we have to provide joy and healing to each other during times like this, it just doesn’t feel right to me to release this album with all that is going on during this global pandemic.”
The “Stupid Love” singer did not provide a new release date for fans, but ensured that more details on the rollout will become available soon. Chromatica marks the artist’s first offering since appearing on the GRAMMY-winning soundtrack of “A Star is Born” in 2018 and her first solo full-length release since 2016’s Joanne.
In addition to holding off on the album, Gaga also announced that her MGM residency in Vegas that was set to host a series of the artist’s performances from April 30 – May 11 will be postponed citing CDC regulations on large public gatherings. She also revealed that a surprise performance that was in the works for the now-postponed Coachella festival, may now never see the light of day.
