Hip-hop's esteemed history and culture deserve to be accessible at any age, and thanks to a new book, now everyone can learn the ABCs of hip-hop.

Written by Howie Abrams and illustrated by graffiti artist Michael "Kaves" McLeer, Hip-Hop Alphabet touches on all facets of hip-hop history by attributing each letter of the alphabet with a pioneering hip-hop act. The artists represented include GRAMMY winners such as the Beastie Boys, Jay Z and LL Cool J, and topical subjects such as DJing, vinyl, microphones, and graffiti are also indexed in the book.

To make this book deal even sweeter, a percentage of book sales will be allocated to the Jam Master Jay Foundation for Music, a nonprofit established in the memory of Run DMC's Jam Master Jay that aims to provide access to the arts for students regardless of their background.

Fittingly, the book's foreword is written by Jam Master Jay's Run DMC bandmate, Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Darryl "DMC" McDaniels.

"The wit and words of hip-hop with the artistic mastery of graffiti (our art) to provide a creative educational experience for young and old alike," writes McDaniels. "It's solid proof that hip-hop, as well as all of the arts, are powerful tools for learning — and educating our children."
