While she had already earned her first two career GRAMMYs at the 39th GRAMMY Awards for the year before, with the release of her sixth single, 1997's "How Do I Live," a then-15-year-old LeAnn Rimes skyrocketed her career to another level.

The track earned Rimes a GRAMMY nomination, and it landed at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. "How Do I Live" then parked itself on the chart for an impressive 69 weeks, half in the Top 10, a feat only recently bested by Ed Sheeran's GRAMMY-winning "Shape Of You."
Now that we've reached the 20-year milestone since the track's release, Rimes decided it was time to strip the track down to its essence in time for her tour in support of her 2016 album, Remnants. She re-recorded "How Do I Live," this time tempering the tempo, peeling back the chorus to reveal heart-wrenching falsetto tones and giving the Diane Warren-penned track a totally new lease on life.
Rimes released the studio version of the re-imagined "How Do I Live" on March 29 as a thank you to fans who have supported Rimes' career along the way and as a way to celebrate the tune's anniversary.

"I greatly appreciate and adore the original version and all that it has done — that will always exist and never change," Rimes told Billboard. "I would love for this new arrangement to sit alongside the original as a companion, highlighting what a classic song Diane Warren created."
