Guitarist Scott Putesky has died at the age of 49, after a protracted battle with colon cancer, Rolling Stone reports.
Under the pseudonym Daisy Berkowitz, Putesky helped co-found Marilyn Manson's band, originally named Marilyn Manson And The Spooky Kids, in 1989, whereupon he acted as the band's chief composer and guitarist on their debut album, 1994's The Portrait Of An American Family. Putseky also played lead guitar on the band's 1995 cover of the Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)," the group's first hit.
Putesky parted ways with the group during the recording of 1996's Antichrist Superstar, which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. The album became a breakthrough hit for the group, despite an irreconcilable personality conflict with album co-producer Trent Reznor, who had helped sign the band to Interscope.
Manson took to Instagram to comment on his former bandmate's passing, saying, "We had our differences over the years, but I will always remember the good times more."
