Dave Mustaine, the Megadeth frontman who has voiced such metal classics as "Symphony Of Destruction," "Peace Sells" and "Holy Wars ... The Punishment Due," is set to launch a career on the other side of the mic.
The GRAMMY winner has signed on to San Francisco-based Gimme Radio, a startup all-metal streaming radio platform, as the host of "The Dave Mustaine Show." The two-hour weekly radio program will debut Nov. 9 at noon PT/3 p.m. ET, airing at that time each Thursday.
Mustaine's show will provide listeners plenty of insight into the metal icon's music influences and current favorites while also featuring plenty of war stories and tales from the road from his more than 35-year career.
"I've always wanted to do radio that is strictly my show, my songs, my way. Gimme Radio lets me play what I want to play, and say what I want to say ... no restrictions," said Mustaine, who earned his first GRAMMY earlier this year for Best Metal Performance for Megadeth's 'Dystopia.
Launched in June, Gimme Radio focuses exclusively on metal music with the goal of providing a community for fellow metal fans worldwide. And with on-air talent such as Mustaine leading the charge, the service is looking to reach a wider audience. The platform has featured on-air contributions from Lamb Of God's Randy Blythe and members of the Dillinger Escape Plan and Death Angel.
"We've had a preview of what Dave is planning to talk about on some of these shows, and heard some of his stories — and we know that our listeners and his fans are going to be blown away. This show shouldn't be missed by any metal fan," said Gimme Radio's co-founder/CEO Tyler Lenane.
Gimme Radio, whose DJs "play what they want and not what they're told," is accessible via its website as well as a new mobile app for iOS users, with an app for Android users set to launch in the coming weeks.
