Michael Jackson's thriller is timeless — the album, the song and, of course, the video.
Now, the classic video will get a fresh facelift at the Venice Film Festival with the debut of Michael Jackson's Thriller 3D, an updated 3-D version using the latest available technology to present "the highest quality audio and visual experience."
"We took full advantage of the remarkable advances in technology to add new dimensions to both the visual and the audio," said John Landis, the film's director, "bringing it to a whole new level. Even though 'Thriller' was shot traditionally, I was able to use the 3-D creatively. Let me just warn you, there is a rather shocking surprise in there."
Debuting on MTV in December 1983, the original horror-inspired video for "Thriller" blazed a trail as one of the first popular long-form music videos, clocking in at 14 minutes with extended dramatic scenes, stunning visuals and iconic choreography.
The Venice Film Festival kicks off Aug. 30, and will also include a screening of the Making Michael Jackson's Thriller, the behind-the-scenes documentary that netted Jackson the GRAMMY for Best Video Album at the 27th GRAMMY Awards.
