"I enjoyed it today," Mos Def told The Associated Press."If I get a chance to do it again in another way, I'll just give it my all. I'm always going to be creating. ... I'm not going to disappear if I stop rap."
The GRAMMY-nominated rapper, actor and activist announced his retirement last year from music and film, planning a set of farewell shows at the Apollo Theater in New York in late 2016. Founder of One Musicfest, Jason "J" Carter, with the help of other festival organizers, was able to convince Bey to perform one more time on the same bill as headliners Jill Scott, Migos and Damian Marley.
Fans of Mos Def were thrilled by his hour-plus One Musicfest performance, which included his popular songs "The New Danger," ''UMI Says" and "Black Radio." It remains to be seen where his path to retirement will take him next.
"I'm just trying to get through today," Mos Def said. "I've got plans. I'm just grateful to be alive to tell you the truth. I've got plans and things I've been working on but I'm just happy for today."
