A pair of '80s stars will impart their wisdom on a new generation of unsigned talent on Scott Borchetta new Canadian TV singing competition.
Nikki Sixx and Boy George have joined Ryan Tedder, Shania Twain and Fergie as mentors on "The Launch," a Toronto-based six-part talent search series that will highlight unsigned musicians as they bid to compose a chart-topping hit in just two days.
Sixx is best known as the primary songwriter and bassist in Mötley Crüe, penning glam-metal hits such as "Home Sweet Home," "Kickstart My Heart" and "Shout At The Devil." Since the Crüe have retired from touring, Sixx has kept busy with his Sixx:A.M. music project and "Sixx Sense" radio show.
Riding hits such as "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" and "I'll Tumble 4 Ya," Boy George and Culture Club earned Best New Artist honors at the 26th GRAMMY Awards in 1984. Recently, George signed a deal with BMG Records. According to his website, his first BMG release will comprise a solo covers album.
Additional talent confirmed to participate on the show is "Issues" singer/songwriter Julia Michaels, GRAMMY winner Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland and producer/songwriters busbee, Ian Kirkpatrick, Stephan Moccio, and Dann Huff.
"The Launch" is scheduled to launch in 2018.
