GRAMMY Week's National GRAMMY Career Day at the University of Southern California gave 850 Los Angeles-area high-school students the opportunity to learn from the industry's finest. Each workshop had a GRAMMY winning or GRAMMY-nominated artist to inspire the students.

The GRAMMY-nominated producing duo the Underdogs — Harvey Mason Jr. and Damon Thomas — covered how soundtracks are produced in "Masterminds Part 1." Chapter Trustee Mike Clink and GRAMMY-nominated Howard Benson, acclaimed producers, considered the producer's role in recording in "Masterminds Part 2."

In the "Three Days Out" workshop, GRAMMY-nominated guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd, producer KC Porter and Keb' Mo' emphasized the importance of business savvy and education. "Trax" taught students how to lay down tracks with GRAMMY nominee Vikter Duplaix and Sebastian Arocha Morton.

Two "Noms And Wins" workshops featured chart-topping artists discussing solo careers. GRAMMY winners Boyz II Men, GRAMMY-nominated Akon and Tank appeared — with moderators Gail Mitchell of Billboard and singer/songwriter Sy Smith, both Chapter Governors.

Other participating Chapter Governors and their workshops included Tanya Greig in "The Color Purple" (with the musical's composers/lyricists: Stephen Bray, Brenda Russell and GRAMMY winner Allee Willis along with principal cast member Jeannette Bayardelle); Chapter President Tom Sturges, GRAMMY-winning songwriter Lamont Dozier and Manuel Seal in "The Science Of Songwriting"; KCRW's Jason Bentley in "Once," sharing how music is integrated into film through discussion with Oscar winners Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová. Film and video director CJ Johnson hosted GRAMMY-nominated Trin-I-Tee 5:7, GRAMMY-nominated Jennifer Peña and Paul Wall in "Texas Sound Exchange"; Electronic Arts executive Steve Schnur in "Video Game Music"; and musician Rob Lewis in "Rhythm And Soul."

"Jammin' With The Greats" allowed dozens of students an opportunity to perform with Chapter Governors Greg Adams on trumpet and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band keyboardist Bob Carpenter. With musicians such as GRAMMY winning guitarist Steve Vai, Phil Bynoe, Joe Travers and GRAMMY-nominated saxophonist Dave Koz, the group delivered a mix of knowledge, rousing improvisation and extended jam sessions.

Finally, in a new partnership with the GRAMMY Foundation and MusiCares, the Starkey Hearing Foundation donated 300 hearing instruments to approximately 150 Los Angeles-based children experiencing hearing loss.
