Mexico is the birthplace of many musical genres heard all over the world—mariachi and banda, to name a couple. As a tribute to its musical gifts, GRAMMY-nominated band Flor De Toloache's Mireya Ramos and Latin GRAMMY-winning producer Aureo Baqueiro will gather virtually on Tuesday, May 5 for the GRAMMY Museum's Cinco De Mayo Instagram Live hosted by Chilean pop star and activist Francisca Valenzuela.
The livestream will kick off at 5 p.m. EST/ 2 p.m. PST and closeout at 6 p.m. EST/ 3 p.m. PST. The Instagram live will celebrate the holiday embraced throughout the country commemorating the day Mexico's army beat the French in battle on May 5, 1862 by highlighting Mexican music's diverse genres. Watch the event, which will feature commentary in both English and Spanish, on the GRAMMY Museum's Instagram.
The GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles has become one of Latin music's hubs for exhibitions and music programming in the city. Last year, the museum opened the first permanent Latin Music gallery in the city with a celebration that included GRAMMY-nominated singer Angela Aguilar, Latin GRAMMY-winning singer Christian Nodal, city officials, Recording Academy staff and many more.
In May, the museum will continue to celebrate Latin music with the digital exhibit launch series of Colombian singer/songwriter Carlos Vives' exhibit called Deep Heart: Roots, Rock & the Music of Carlos Vives.
