Austin-based Latin funk orchestra Grupo Fantasma are one of their hometown's proudest musical exports. Formed via the condensation of members from two former bands in 2001, they grew from a biweekly local gig to earning their first GRAMMY nomination for Best Latin Rock Or Alternative Album for Sonidos Gold at the 51st GRAMMY Awards to earning their first GRAMMY in the same category for El Existential just two years later at the 53rd GRAMMY Awards.
Guitarist Beto Martinez and percussionist Jose Galeano sat down with the Recording Academy to play a round of One Take, GRAMMY.com's rapid-fire question game that challenges your favorite artists to see how many questions about life, music and everything in between they can answer in just 60 seconds.
In this episode, Martinez and Galeano reveal their favorite thing about their hometown, favorite guilty pleasure song and which musician they know is hands-down the funniest. You'll also learn their preference when it comes to Michael Jackson and Prince and vinyl or cassettes. And we spied an '80s hair metal reference, too.
