In May, Polo G dropped the ambitiously titled album THE GOAT, which quickly climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and boasted features from Lil Baby, Stunna 4 Vegas and the late Juice WRLD. On his second LP, the Chicago rap legend-in-the-making has officially arrived.
In the latest edition of GRAMMY.com's Up Close & Personal, we caught up The 2020 XXL Freshman Class membe to talk about THE GOAT, what success means to him and how the city of Chicago influences his music and his lyrics. He also talked about the fashion origin of his name.
"I feel like fashion is just a big part of music in general," he says. "You will hear a lot of lines being dropped in a song about what a person's rockin' or what a person's wearing, so I feel like that's definitely a big part of music in general." He even teases some of his future dreams to build a fashion brand.
During the exclusive conversation, Polo G also names some of his favorite up-and-coming rappers, who influenced him growing up and how he knew from the moment he did his first studio session that he wanted to be a rapper. Find out more in the video above.
