As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rock the music industry, GRAMMY.com reached out to a few musicians to see how they were spending their days indoors. Today, Christinna O shares her Quarantine Diary. Her single "Braided" is out now.
[8:30 a.m.] Around 8 a.m. I hear my pit terrier, Sherlock, at my bedroom door waiting for me to wake for our morning walk. I love that he gets me out of bed early and starts my day connecting to nature. I’m learnin' how you start and end your days sets the tone for all the hours in between.
[9 a.m.] After coming inside, I give Sherlock a fresh bowl of water and I fill a mason jar with water and lemon for myself. A glass of lemon water in the morning feels like it resets my insides for the day. With my lemon water, I light incense. I use my sense of smell to ground myself and crank my brain to start thinking in color for the day. Nag champa, Patchouli and Cedarwood are some of my favorite scents.
[10 a.m.] By 10:00, I’m dancing in my studio/office to my current rotation. I use this time to just be present with what’s inspiring me and brainstorming how I’m going to tell the narrative this time. I take the time to daydream really big and visualize myself achieving the goals I’ve created. This is how I inspire myself every day. A personal pep rally haha.
[1 p.m.] I’m in my senior year of college! Around this time I’m logging on to Zoom university. Along with class, I use this time to comb through my emails for the day.
[3 p.m.] This is the time where I start unfolding ideas. I sit down often to write down some lyrics my brain started juggling that morning. Since the start of quarantine in March, I have started self-teaching myself production. I make about 2 to 3 beats a week, currently. I look to increase the weekly amount as I grow.
[4:30 p.m.] I’ll turn on my T.V. to watch reruns of some of my favorite shows. "Atlanta", "Ramy", "Euphoria" or "Girlfriends" are the usual. I’ll hit a bowl of something green and embrace an afternoon nap. I usually don’t nap for over an hour.
[6 p.m.] I take Sherlock for an evening session of fetch and prepare his dinner. I bought a few great reads recently, so I also read a few chapters of something good or journal before I have dinner myself.
[8:30 p.m.] I spend the rest of my night under my colored lights. I scroll through the socials. Lose myself in a new TikTok whirlpool and drift away to the sounds of some movie I won’t finish.
