As the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic continues to rock the music industry, the Recording Academy reached out to a few musicians to see how they were spending their days indoors. Today, GRAMMY-nominated quartet Wood & Wire share their Quarantine Diary. Their second album No Matter Where It Goes from Here is out now

For our Quarantine Diaries we have chosen to document a day that has been like no other so far; That is to say, a day where we are getting together to play music, do an interview with The Austin Chronicle, and record a video for a virtual festival appearance. Additionally, we do some radio spots all in support of the release of our forthcoming album, No Matter Where It Goes from Here.

[8 a.m.] Morning dog time: Billy takes a walk to the river with Wylie.

Tony hits golf balls off of the back porch for Rambeau.

Trevor spends some quality time with Javi.

[8:31 a.m.]  Billy makes breakfast tacos for the family. And Wiley.

[9:30 a.m.] Grab a mandolin and go.

[9:45 a.m.] Brew a pot of rotgut type coffee. Generic, bulk, pre-ground 3 lb bucket type. Brings back fond memories of hotels and truck stops.

[10 a.m.] Trevor starts setting up the stage for the video shoot.

[12 p.m.] Try to remember how to play music.

[12:01 p.m.] Drink Lone Star beer.

[12:05 p.m.] It’s 100 degrees already? Stares at the pool wanting to get in.

[12:20 p.m.] Remember we are supposed to be taking photos right now.

[1:00 p.m.] Set up and record a video for “Michael Hearn’s Big Barn Dance”–a festival we were supposed to play in Taos, NM in September–one of the many COVID casualties of 2020. We had a blast at that one last year. These livestream festivals seem to be the norm these days. It makes us a bit sad although we must admit, a forced summer at home with our families has had its perks.

[2 p.m.] Interview with Kevin Curtin of The Austin Chronicle about our new record No Matter Where it Goes from Here. The Austin Chronicle is a long standing institution here in Central Texas and they’ve been good to us over the years.

[3 p.m.] A dip in Trevor’s new stock tank pool. We haven’t seen each other (in person) in a long time. Like everyone else, we’ve been on conference calls and Zoom meetings together, but it was great to finally (and safely) pick some tunes together, then sit and talk about anything other than music for a while before we went our separate ways again.

[8 p.m.] And of course when it’s too hot to turn the oven on inside, we end the day with a grilled zucchini lasagna. It’s ‘really’ zucchini pasta with meat sauce but it seems like lasagna, the kids love it too - thx Garfield!
