Singer/songwriter Rachel Platten recently participated in an installment of the GRAMMY Museum's Spotlight series. In an exclusive interview, Platten discussed learning choreography and the responsibility of headlining on tour, among other topics. She also performed a brief set, including her Top 10 hit, "Fight Song."

"I was a [tour] opener for so many years and I felt like I had to prove to the audience that I was good enough to be there. I was working really hard," said Platten. "I think I realized the first or second show, 'Oh, I don't need to work right now. I can just be me. People are here to see me. I can relax a little bit more.'"

Boston-based Platten began learning piano at 5 years old, and later took up guitar in high school. After studying international relations at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., she decided to pursue a career in music.

Platten independently released her debut album, Trust In Me, in 2003 and began opening for artists such as Tracy Bonham, Ziggy Marley, Regina Spektor, and the Strokes. She released her second album, Be Here, in 2011, and wrote songs that appeared on TV shows such as "Jane By Design" and "Pretty Little Liars."

Released Jan. 1, Platten's major label debut album, Wildfire, features 12 tracks, including "Fight Song," "Stand By You" and "Better Place." The album peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200.

Platten won a 2016 Daytime Emmy Award for Best Musical Performance In A Talk Show/Morning Program. She is currently on a North American tour, with dates scheduled through October.
