Country legend Glen Campbell's death on Aug. 8 has elicited heartfelt tributes remembering his legacy, kind heart and great music from his children, the music community and fans alike, and rightfully so.
Now, his wife, Kim Campbell, has shared her touching eulogy to her late husband for those who couldn't attend his memorial service at the Country Music Hall of Fame on Aug. 24.
"I'd like to be able to share the 'real Gen' with you — the one you've never seen or heard before –— and tell you secrets about his personality and his quirks, but I can't," she starts. "There were no secrets with Glen. He was the real deal all the time."
She went on to describe her experience of the recent solar eclipse and its connection to her feelings of losing her late husband.
"The sun was still there and still shining, but it wasn't as radiant as usual. It was only when the eclipse was at its totality that I could finally take off my protective glasses for a moment," she said. "It took everything I had to face the sun as it went dark. … As I stood there, frozen, a small burst of bright light emerged from one edge of the darkness, changing the total eclipse into a shining diamond ring."
As she reaches the conclusion of her eloquent speech, she recounts how the ring on her finger reminds her of the love and comfort she finds in the light.
"On the day I lost Glen, I felt like I was in total darkness," she said. "As I look at the ring on my finger, the ring that symbolizes the love and light that Glen enveloped me in for the last 34 years, I find immense comfort in knowing there is light on the other side."
