The last 50-plus years of recorded music is a vast swath of catalog to tackle for any type of "best of" list. So when NPR took on the narrowing down the 150 Greatest Albums Made By Women since 1964, they inevitably had a surplus of choices.
Encouraged by the idea of "rethink[ing] popular music to put women at the center," Fader followed suit, adding 150 More Great Albums Made By Women. While praising NPR's list as "comprehensive and genre-spanning," Fader used it as a jumping off point for their own fresh take on showing love for the most influential women of music, while noting the omission of key albums by GRAMMY winners Rihanna, Lada Gaga and Michelle Branch, among others.
With 300 albums combined, these lists only prove how deep the well is of incredible albums made by women. Who will be next to add their picks to the mix? After all, there are certainly plenty more to choose from.
