The holograms of late GRAMMY-winning musician Roy Orbison and musician Buddy Holly are headed on tour in the fall, Roy Orbison Music has announced. The tour from BASE Hologram will have dates in Europe and North America.
The Rock 'N' Roll Dream tour will feature a live band, backup singers and remastered audio, Base Holograms says on the tour site. The holograms will reportedly go on simultaneous tours in Europe and North America, according to Rolling Stone, with European dates starting in October going on sale March 29.
Roy Orbison Jr., President of Roy Orbison Music, said in a statement to Rolling Stone that the two musicians worked together at a point in their careers and helped each other out.
"Dad jammed with Buddy in Lubbock, Texas, and helped change music history by turning Buddy on to Norman Petty Studios; Buddy later returned the favor by recording two of Dad’s songs on his first Crickets album. How beyond cool and special that these two great friends, now get to tour the world together," he said.
He also touched on what the hologram tour will mean for fans and the music world. "My father’s music meant the world to not just to us Orbisons but to millions of fans worldwide," Orbison Jr. said. "Being able to reopen his legendary songbook and again hear his voice bounce off great concert hall walls is both a transcendent and cathartic experience."
On the tour site, BASE Hologram Chairman and CEO Brian Becker said that the two men "defined the genre of rock and roll, from writing to recording to the standard band configuration."
Tickets for the tour will go on sale March 29. For more information visit the tour site.
