You know Sara Bareilles as the singer/songwriter behind the Top 10 2007 hit "Love Song," or more recently as the composer behind the GRAMMY-nominated musical "Waitress." Now her innovative songwriting has gained the attention of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Billboard reports that Bareilles will be honored with the David Starlight Award, which recognizes "gifted young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry via their original songs." Other artists who have received the award since its inception in 2004 include Ed Sheeran, Nick Jonas, Drake, Taylor Swift, John Legend, and Alicia Keys.
"Sara Bareilles is a force to be reckoned with in popular music," commented Songwriter Hall of Fame co-chairs Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff. "From her self-described 'piano-based pop soul' sound to her tremendous success with her long-running Broadway show 'Waitress,' Sara has been a pioneer, forging new ground as a singer/songwriter with every step in her career."
Bareilles will receive her award at the 2018 Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony slated to take place in New York on June 14. GRAMMY winners John Mellencamp, Jermaine Dupri, Alan Jackson, Kool And The Gang, and Allee Willis and GRAMMY nominees Bill Anderson and Steve Dorff will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall. Music executive and past Salute To Industry Icons honoree Lucian Grainge will receive the Howie Richmond Hitmaker Award.
