In 2017, Ken Jordan retired from the Crystal Method, leaving DJ Scott Kirkland on his own. In September 2018, Kirkland released his solo Crystal Method album The Trip Home, and now he has announced his updated 2019 tour schedule, upcoming remixes and new theme music for Netflix's children's sci-fi series 3Below: Tales Of Arcadia.

Four months of tour dates kick off on Feb. 15 in Atlanta, Ga. and finish on June 15 in Columbus, Ohio. With details and ticket sales on the Crystal Method's website, the tour mostly visits smaller urban markets. For example, the New York stop is in Rochester and the California stop is in Napa. On May 26, the Crystal Method will also be featured at BottleRock Napa Festival's Silent Disco stage.

Kirkland has described how his new career as a soloist had him rethinking vintage synth sounds, new audiences' tastes and how to compose fresh combinations of the old, the new and the futuristic. One of his approaches to finding his fresh mixes is collaborating with emerging remixers. Otosan has a remix of The Trip Home's single "Ghost In The City" due out on Feb. 8 and on Feb. 15, a Matt Lange remix of "There's A Difference" is anticipated.

Kirkland's Netflix 3Below soundtrack project is under the supervision of Guillermo del Toro and series executive producer/director Marc Guggenheim. Del Toro's work with Alexandre Desplat on The Shape Of Water resulted in an Oscar win last year as well as three 61st GRAMMY Awards nominations, so Kirkland is in great company.

"A big part of that world was the sound design," said Guggenheim. "The score functions here, not just as a score, but really as another environment." Kirkland's futuristic synth sounds are blended with an orchestral score by Jeff Danna in the series' episodes.

Billboard described The Trip Home as "theatrical and steamy, beautiful but haunting" and wrote, "There's something decidedly sci-fi about it and otherworldly." With Kirkland's mojo for finding electronic freshness fully operational, 2019 should raise the Crystal Method's profile to new heights and intriguing new sonic spaces.
