Female-empowerment oriented, Shelly Peiken's songwriting, blog, book, and now audiobook have provided an inside look at the profession and its challenges. The audiobook for her Confessions Of A Serial Songwriter is nominated at the 60th GRAMMY Awards for Best Spoken Word Album.
In her column at Huffington Post and as @serialsongwriter on Facebook, her advice is admired and liked by a growing following. In many ways the same feminist energy she asserted as a songwriter has given her guidance a force that her audience takes seriously. The cited endorsements for her book begin with Clive Davis.

She gathered the insights that would end up in her book as a successful working songwriter. Her compositions have been recorded by Celine Dion, Selena Gomez, Jessie J, Demi Lovato, and Britney Spears. Peiken is also active both as an advocate and mentor through the Songwriters Of North America of which she was a founding member.
"I wrote 'What A Girl Wants' for Christina Aguilera," said Peiken. "No GRAMMY, but it was the first No. 1 song of the millennium."

Now that she has another chance at her first GRAMMY win in a new category, she has already given some thought as to where that gold statuette would be placed. If she wins, her award will gradually move from a shelf you see when first walking in her house into her office, with her many gold records.
"It's a symbol of something to me," said Peiken, including the hard work that went into the song as essential to what her awards mean.
