Oscar Wilde's 1890 novel, The Picture Of Dorian Gray, is the ultimate story of life imitating art. Now, Lionsgate has announced a film adaptation of the classic directed by none other than GRAMMY-winning singer/songwriter St. Vincent, aka Annie Clark.
This is not Clark's first go at directing — she premiered a short film called Birthday Party as part of a horror anthology at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, a piece she co-wrote, scored and directed.
It's also not the first film adaptation of the only novel Wilde ever published. MGM produced the best-know incarnation in 1945. But according to Variety, Lionsgate has added a twist to Wilde's tale for this version: the title character will be a woman.
Film writer David Birke has also been brought on to handle script duties.
In the meantime, St. Vincent heads out on a European and American tour starting in October.
