Digital music, sports and news streaming service TuneIn boasts some 60 million active monthly users, and an impressive array of integration deals with leading mobile, in-home, and vehicle-based digital devices.
Drafting off this momentum, TuneIn has now announced that it will unveil a brand new in-house curated Latin music station for their platform, just in time for the start of Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 – Oct. 15).
Along with the service's collection of over 100,000 participating broadcast radio stations and some 4 million on-demand programs and podcasts from around the world, TuneIn offers content in 22 languages, with curated stations available based on users' geographic regions or language preferences.
It's no surprise, given Latin music's current domination of the digital pop music space, that Latin programming ranks No. 1 among TuneIn's content verticals. As Billboard points out, this dominance of Latin content "mimics services like Pandora and Spotify, where Latin music is hugely popular and long established." In fact, TuneIn's Latin content stations currently boast some 215 million listening hours on a yearly basis – a big target market from the standpoint of digital influence and audience reach.
TuneIn hopes the launch of this new Latin music station will allow them to capitalize on these content metrics,
"Latin music has major appeal and influence on music culture far beyond the Latin audience,” Anthony "DJ Reflex" Jaramillo, head of music for TuneIn, said in a statement. “TuneIn has proven to be a valuable platform for the Latin audience both domestically and internationally, so it makes great sense to offer respected music channels to support both English and Spanish speaking artists in new ways. The Latin music on TuneIn will complement the diverse amount of Latin content programs TuneIn already presents."
The forthcoming station will be titled "Latin Hits," and will launch on Sept. 15
