On May 13 six worthy students from schools attending GRAMMY Career Day were chosen to receive free musical instruments. Each instrument was given to help ensure that the student continues his/her musical education following high school.
The students receiving instruments were Kendra Bernard (saxophone), Sheepshead Bay High School, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Yamakius Korentang (trombone), Bayside High School, Queens, N.Y.; Angie Laguerre (sequencer keyboard), Midwood High School, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Leonard McGill (bass), Boys Club of New York, New York City; Robert Newsome (piano), Fordham HS for the Arts, Bronx, N.Y.; and Kai Nam Tsang (guitar), Grover Cleveland High School, Ridgewood, N.Y.
Teachers were given the task to submit a paragraph summary of a talented and qualified high school senior with academic achievement desiring to pursue a career in music if provided the tools to do so. Student Instrument Program recipients will also receive a mentoring session with a professional musician.
