The Songwriters Hall of Fame has announced its 2018 nominees, a list representing a catalog of seemingly countless hits, from country classics, reggae jams and iconic rap to pop gems, R&B anthems and more.
The class of nominees includes GRAMMY-winning songwriters Tracy Chapman ("Give Me One Reason"), Alan Jackson ("Don't Rock The Jukebox"), Tom Waits ("Downtown Train"), Kool & The Gang ("Celebration"), Tom T. Hall ("Little Bitty"), and Jimmy Cliff ("The Harder They Come").
Fellow GRAMMY winners Mariah Carey ("Hero") and the Isley Brothers ("Fight The Power") are also among the nominees.
Also making the nominee list are N.W.A. ("Straight Outta Compton"), Chrissie Hynde (Pretenders, "Back On The Chain Gang") and Alice Cooper ("Welcome To My Nightmare").
Additionally, several nonperforming songwriters have been recognized as 2018 nominees, including Randy Goodrum, Jermaine Durpri, Maurice Starr, Steve Dorff, and duos Kye Fleming and Dennis Morgan, Denny Randell and Sandy Linzer.

To qualify for induction, a songwriter must be a published writer for a minimum of 20 years with a notable catalog of hit songs.
Six songwriters, or songwriting duos, will be honored at the Songwriters Hall of Fame's annual awards gala on June 24, 2018, in New York.
