"Dear Evan Hansen," a musical detailing the life of a high school senior who suffers from a social anxiety disorder, emerged the big winner at the 71st Tony Awards, taking home six awards.

Benji Pasek and Justin Paul, who wrote the music for "Dear Evan Hansen," won for Best Original Score. Ben Platt, who has earned acclaim for his leading performance role, won his first career Tony for Best Lead Actor in a Musical.

Alex Lacamoire took home Best Orchestrations for "Dear Evan Hansen," his second consecutive win in the category. He won last year for his work on "Hamilton," which also earned him Best Musical Theater Album honors at the 58th GRAMMY Awards.

John Legend won his first Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play for "Jitney," a musical he co-produced. The 10-time GRAMMY winner is now just an Emmy Award away from joining the EGOT club in winning all four major entertainment awards.

Three-time GRAMMY winner Bette Midler won her first competitive Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Musical for her role as in "Hello, Dolly!" Midler received a special Tony Award 43 years ago "for adding lustre to the Broadway season." "Hello, Dolly!," a musical that originally debuted in 1964, also picked up Best Revival of a Musical honors.

James Earl Jones was recognized with a Special Tony Award for lifetime achievement in the theater. A versatile actor, Jones has also earned GRAMMY, Oscar and Emmy awards during his distinguished career.

Recognizing excellence in Broadway theater, the Tonys were broadcast live on CBS on June 11 from Radio City Music Hall in New York, host city for the 60th GRAMMY Awards.
