What can't Nomi Ruiz do? The Nuyorican powerhouse is a singer/songwriter, actress and essayist who has performed with nu-disco group Hercules & Love Affair, acted in the revered TV show "Mayans M.C.," and written essays on gender, sexuality and inclusivity for Jezebel and The Fader, to name a few things.
"What made me want to be an artist is that ... it was innately in me. I've been singing since I was a kid and writing songs at a very young age. It was sort of a way for me to escape within myself and eventually gave me the means to escape outside as well and see the world and connect with other people," Ruiz recently told GRAMMY.com.
