Australian singer/songwriter Vance Joy visited The Recording Academy's headquarters in Santa Monica, Calif., to participate in an exclusive GRAMMY.com interview. Joy discussed how he learned the Mission Impossible theme on piano as a child, the making of his hit "Riptide" and why he enjoys performing his new single, "Fire And The Flood," among other topics.
"My new single is called 'Fire And The Flood.' … It's like an epic love song and I love playing it live," said Joy. "I guess for me it's exciting to be playing it because vocally it demands more of me than other songs that I've written."
Born in Melbourne, Australia, Joy got his start playing piano as a child. In 2013 he released a five-track EP, God Loves You When You're Dancing, which caught the attention of Atlantic Records. His debut studio album, Dream Your Life Away, was released in 2014 and peaked in the Top 20 on the Billboard 200 on the strength of the Billboard Hot 100 hit "Riptide."
In July Joy released a deluxe version of Dream Your Life Away featuring "Fire And The Flood." That single reached the Top 10 in Australia and has broken onto Billboard's Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart.
Joy, who is currently the support act on Taylor Swift's 1989 tour, begins his international Fire And The Flood tour in January 2016 with dates scheduled through April 2016.
