GRAMMY-nominated country singer/songwriter Brandy Clark visited The Recording Academy's headquarters in Santa Monica, Calif., to participate in an exclusive GRAMMY.com interview and performance. Clark discussed her desire to push the envelope on her sophomore album, 2016's Big Day In A Small Town, and her experience collaborating with the album's producer, GRAMMY winner Jay Joyce, among other topics. Following the interview, Clark performed a brief set with guitarist Miles Aubrey, including "Girl Next Door."

"I didn't want to make a paler version of [12 Stories]," said Clark on the follow-up to her GRAMMY-nominated debut album. "I wanted to keep the integrity of 12 Stories as far as the songwriting, but push the envelope a little bit production-wise and have a little edge on there that wasn't on 12 Stories. I think that's part of why Jay Joyce was a great choice to produce it."

Before releasing her debut album in 2013, Clark was primarily known as a songwriter in Nashville, Tenn., where she and her songwriting partner, GRAMMY winner Shane McAnally, co-penned songs for artists such as Reba McEntire, LeAnn Rimes and Miranda Lambert. The latter's "Mama's Broken Heart" became a Top 20 hit and earned Clark her first GRAMMY nomination for 2013 for Best Country Song with co-writers McAnally and Kacey Musgraves.

After independently releasing a self-titled EP in 2012, Clark followed with 12 Stories. The hit album garnered Clark three GRAMMY nominations: Best New Artist, Best Country Album and Best Country Song (with Mark Stephen Jones) for "Hold My Hand," which she performed with GRAMMY winner Dwight Yoakam at the 57th GRAMMY Awards in 2015.

Released in June, Big Day In A Small Town was produced by Joyce, who earned a 2005 GRAMMY for Best Rock Gospel Album as producer for Audio Adrenaline's Until My Heart Caves In as well as a 2014 Producer Of The Year, Non-Classical nomination. Featuring 11 tracks written or co-written by Clark, including "Girl Next Door" and "Three Kids No Husband," Big Day In A Small Town reached No. 8 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart.

Clark is currently on a North American tour with dates scheduled through November.
