GRAMMY-nominated UK singer/songwriter David Gray recently participated in an installment of the GRAMMY Museum's An Evening With series. Before an intimate audience at the Museum's Clive Davis Theater, Gray discussed the themes present on 2014's Mutineers and the risks he took to create the album, among other topics. Gray also performed a brief set, including "Back In The World" from Mutineers.

"This record was more than just the next record in a number; it was the beginning of a new cycle. The end of a period of time," said Gray regarding Mutineers. "I wanted some kind of uplift; some hallelujah moment. I wanted to be saying something about being alive rather than just setting jaded, middle-aged observations to music." 

Manchester, England, native Gray landed multiple record deals, released three albums and toured with GRAMMY winners Shawn Colvin, Dave Matthews Band and Radiohead before the release of his 1999 breakthrough album, White Ladder. Originally released in 1998 on Gray's IHT Records, White Ladder was later released on ATO Records — marking the first release for the label, which was co-founded by Matthews — and peaked in the Top 40 on the Billboard 200 on the strength of the Billboard Hot 100 hit "Babylon." The success of the album helped Gray earn his first GRAMMY nomination for Best New Artist for 2001.

Subsequent releases included 2002's A New Day At Midnight and 2005's Life In Slow Motion, both of which peaked in the Top 20. Gray returned in 2009 with Draw The Line, which peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard 200, featuring the Billboard Rock Songs hit "Fugitive"  and "Full Steam," a duet with current 57th GRAMMY nominee Annie Lennox. Foundling followed in 2010 and peaked at No. 9, marking Gray's highest-charting album to date.

Released in June, Mutineers features 11 tracks, including "Back In The World" and "Gulls," and peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard 200. Gray is set to embark on a brief tour of Australia and New Zealand in March 2015, with dates scheduled through April.
