GRAMMY-nominated singer/songwriter Nick Jonas recently visited The Recording Academy's headquarters in Santa Monica, Calif., to participate in an exclusive GRAMMY.com interview. Jonas discussed his music influences, how he created a new sound for his latest album, Nick Jonas, and collaborating with Demi Lovato on the track "Avalanche," among other topics.
"I'm really thrilled to be in a position now to get to start over almost 10 years into recording music and performing," said Jonas. "This is a really special, kind of new chapter for me. With that, I approached the creation of [Nick Jonas] with a really open mind."
Jonas made his songwriting debut in 2002, when a holiday song he co-wrote with his father, Paul Jonas, was featured on a Broadway charity album. He subsequently inked a deal with Columbia Records and released his debut solo album, 2004's Nicholas Jonas, before forming the Jonas Brothers with his brothers Kevin and Joe. In 2006 the Jonas Brothers released their debut album, It's About Time, followed by 2007's Jonas Brothers, which peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200. The trio scored their first chart-topping album, A Little Bit Longer, in 2008. That same year they earned a GRAMMY nomination for Best New Artist. The Jonas Brothers followed with three Top 10 albums — Music From The 3D Concert Experience (2009, No. 3), Lines, Vines And Trying Times (2009, No. 1) and Jonas L.A (2010, No. 7), the soundtrack to their original Disney TV series of the same name — before disbanding in 2013.
Released Nov. 10, Nick Jonas is the follow-up to 2010's Who I Am, a side project that he recorded with the Administration. Nick Jonas peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and features 11 tracks, including the Top 10 hit "Jealous" and collaborations with Lovato and rapper Angel Haze ("Numb").
On April 14, 2015, Jonas will join 57th GRAMMY nominee Iggy Azalea's the Great Escape Tour, with dates scheduled through May.
