Electro-pop trio Chvrches recently participated in an exclusive GRAMMY.com interview to discuss the group's formation, their recording process and the music scene in their hometown of Glasgow, Scotland, among other topics.

"We just started throwing some ideas around all three of us and very quickly hit on something that was exciting, something that moved much quicker creatively than anything that we'd done before," said keyboardist/vocalist Martin Doherty. "Within six months we had a lot of songs and a lot of exciting material."

Comprising keyboardist/vocalist Iain Cook (Aerogramme), Doherty (the Twilight Sad) and vocalist Lauren Mayberry (Blue Sky Archives), Chvrches formed in 2011 and began writing songs inspired by Prince, Depeche Mode and Kate Bush. Two of their first recordings, "The Mother We Share" and "Lies," generated enough online buzz to land the trio an opening slot on Passion Pit's 2012 UK tour. The following year Chvrches ranked fifth on the BBC's Sound of 2013 list. After a string of North American tour dates in 2013 the group released their debut album, The Bones Of What You Believe, in September of that year.

The album peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard 200 and features 12 songs written by Chvrches, including "Lies" and "The Mother We Share," which cracked the Top 15 on Billboard's Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart.

Chvrches are currently in the midst of an international tour with dates scheduled through November.
