GRAMMY-nominated R&B singer/songwriter Trey Songz recently visited The Recording Academy's headquarters in Santa Monica, Calif., to participate in an exclusive GRAMMY.com interview. Songz discussed why he's proud of his latest album, Trigga, his experience collaborating with Nicki Minaj on "Touchin, Lovin," which is featured on the album, and he revealed what fans can expect from his upcoming joint tour with GRAMMY winner Chris Brown.

"I'm proud about so many things about Trigga but one thing that I'm very proud about is that it's the album I've had the most control over," said Songz. "Six albums in and I feel like it's my first one."

Born Tremaine Aldon Neverson in Petersburg, Va., Songz relocated to New Jersey after high school under the guidance of producer Troy Taylor (Patti LaBelle, SWV). Songz garnered attention by releasing mixtapes under the alias the Prince of Virginia. His debut studio album, 2005's I Gotta Make It, peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard 200. Trey Day followed in 2007, peaking at No. 11 on the strength of the Top 20 hit "Can't Help But Wait," which garnered Songz his first GRAMMY nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. He garnered a GRAMMY nomination for Best Contemporary R&B Album for 2009's Ready, which peaked at No. 3 and featured the Top 10 hit "Say Aah" with GRAMMY-nominated rapper Fabolous. His subsequent releases include 2010's Passion, Pain & Pleasure (No. 2) and 2012's Chapter V, which earned Songz his first chart-topping album and a GRAMMY nomination for Best R&B Song for "Heart Attack."

Released in July, Trigga peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and features 17 tracks co-written by Songz, including the DJ Mustard-produced hit "Na Na," as well as collaborations with Justin Bieber ("Foreign Remix") and Ty Dolla $ign ("Dead Wrong"), among others.
