GRAMMY nominees the Avett Brothers spoke with the Chicago Chapter at Lollapalooza 2014 about touring and recording. When the brothers Scott and Seth Avett added bass player Bob Crawford, his experience with being on tour pushed them into playing out and around with a do-it-yourself philosophy. Years later, producer Rick Rubin reached out to them and used his expertise to nurture the band's freedom to do their own thing their way while recording in the studio. "We all agree with each other that protecting the art-maker is the trick, and not worrying about how far it goes or how big it goes," shared Scott Avett. "It matters how good it is." That's the professional "bubble" from their relationship with Rubin that allows them to focus on music creation.
