Busbee was nominated for Best Country Song as the co-songwriter of Maren Morris' "My Church" at the 59th Annual GRAMMY Awards. In 2014 he discussed with the Nashville Chapter how songwriting changed his mind about some of the preconceptions he had, coming from a jazz background. "When I was making jazz, I used to look at pop and think, 'Oh, that's so … simplistic, it's so easy …,'" Busbee said. "But when you actually try to write a song and try to write a hit song, you realize how incredibly difficult it is."
