Growing up together in Texas, high school buddies Zach Chance and Jonathan Clay supported each other's solo efforts before making music together. Building their name around their love for Creedence Clearwater Revival, they referenced the pilgrims' colony Jamestown to underscore their blend of old and new. At Austin City Limits 2014, Clay told the Texas Chapter, "We wanted to tell a story, and I think if you really want to tell a story, genuinely, you've got to get out and live a story." Chance responded, "Yeah, you've got to be uncomfortable." The harmonious and critically well received duo recorded their first album Utah in an isolated cabin in Utah, and also moved to the "concrete jungle" of Los Angeles to keep pushing their musical life stories ahead.
